Summary
Centennial Child, Gary Tinker shares memories of his childhood growing up between a foster home in the south, and as one of 15 children at his home in Pinehouse, Northern Saskatchewan.
Episode Guest
Gary Tinker was born on a trapline near Pinehouse, Saskatchewan in 1967. His birth was attended by two midwives, but as he was being delivered his umbilical cord cut of his oxygen supply, and he was born with a disability--cerebral palsy.
Gary was taken to a foster home in southern Saskatchewan for his education, which his father emphasized, and numerous surgeries so that he would be able to walk. When he returned home to Pinehouse as a young adult, he rejected the option of going onto welfare. Instead, he became a leader and advocate for people with disabilities in Northern Saskatchewan.
Episode Two is Tinker’s journey to know himself, and his preparation for a whole new journey.
