Gary Tinker series
Our host Robert Merasty met Gary Tinker in 1989. They met at the Northern Lights Lodge on the Hanson Lake Road, at a gathering organized by Gary to launch his walk from La Ronge to Regina, to raise awareness for people with disabilities. Robert was there as a reporter for Missinipi (MBC) radio network.
Gary dipped his crutches in Montreal River before he set off on his walk, supported by five close friends. Communities along the way held events to welcome him. It took Gary 79 days to reach Regina, where he dipped his crutches in Wascana and met with the Minister of Social Services.
After the trip, he established the Gary Tinker Foundation for the Disabled.
In this podcast series in Cree and Michif, Robert and Gary remember people and events —some sad, many hilarious. Get ready to laugh and be inspired!
